Roger Dean
Contemporary sculpture in bronze & resin
Roger studied at Liverpool College of Art in 1957 and in his final year as a Post Graduate student was awarded a British Council Scholarship to study at the Brera Academy in Milan in the studio of Marino Marini, and also a Gulbenkian Travelling Scholarship which enabled him to travel extensively in Italy.
In 1965 Roger spent one year as Gulbenkian Fellow in Fine Art at the University of Keele, in Staffordshire, which allowed him to work full-time as a sculptor without any teaching duties. He later returned to teaching in Liverpool until taking the position of Head of Sculpture at Exeter College of Art where he stayed until 1987.
Roger left teaching and for the next 23 years dedicated his time to Public Art projects both locally and throughout the country. He has been the lead artist in many high profile commissions, his most recent pieces have both been memorials, the first was part of the Princesshay development in Broadwalk Gardens Exeter and his latest piece was part of a memorial garden at 42 Commando Unit of the Royal Marines at Bickleigh, near Plymouth.
Following this last public commission Roger decided to return on a full time basis to the development of his own personal ideas.
