Devon In Sight Charity Auction
Deborah Wood of The Art Room organised and hosted a major auction of Modern British and Contemporary art to raise funds for Topsham based charity, Devon In Sight.
This organisation, based at Station House in Topsham, provides essential services to the visually impaired community and without government funding they have a continuous struggle to raise funds.
Among the 120 lots were some excellent pieces of work generously donated by leading professional artists working in the South West, many of whom are represented by London galleries with their work highly regarded and fetching considerable sums.
These included: ‘Winter Windshifts River Exe’ by Graham Rich (Fine Art Society); ‘Track III, Dartmoor’ by Robert Jennison (Royal West of England Academy); ‘Cyprus – Looking Towards the Troodos’ a drawing by Alan Cotton FRSA; ‘River Exe at Bickleigh’, a photograph by Jem Southam and ‘The gymnast’ a sculpture by Roger Dean.
There were paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture and ceramics. Some of the work was donated by the families of artists such as ‘Near Pendeen’ by the late Clifford Fishwick; ‘Spatial Circles’ by the late Peter Thursby FRBS and ‘life study’ by the late Michael Garton RWA.
No commission was taken by either the gallery or the auctioneers making this a one-off opportunity for the public to obtain a serious piece of work at a great price and help the visually impaired community at the same time!
The auction successfully raised over £16,000
