About Deborah Wood

In 1979 Deborah left the BBC in London to join the staff of Exeter College of Art & Design under the Principal Clifford Fishwick. In 1989 she became Manager of Spacex Gallery where she remained for over a decade.

Working alongside two outstanding Artistic Directors, Ann Jones (Hayward Gallery) and Alex Farquharson (Tate Britain), Deborah developed her enthusiasm and appreciation for contemporary visual art.

Taking a break from the arts for a short period she Project Managed two regional charities.

Returning to her core interest, she opened The Art Room in 2008. During the following 6 years she presented over 55 high quality exhibitions and art talks by leading artists with connections to the South West. Some highlights being John Hubbard, Margaret Lovell, John Hitchens, Francis Hewlett and Robert Organ.

The Gallery fast became a centre for like minds, gaining a significant reputation for beautifully presented exhibitions and an ever growing appreciative audience.

More recently Deborah has worked as independent curator for the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, Exeter, and The Malthouse Gallery, Dorset.
